What "remanufactured" means
OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer; for HP printers, that's the HP-branded cartridge. A remanufactured cartridge starts as a used genuine OEM shell. It's cleaned, worn parts are replaced, it's refilled with toner, and it's rebuilt in North America to work in the printer it was designed for. Every cartridge is 100% post-tested before it ships.

Quality and the independent lab test
In independent 2019 testing by Buyers Lab, 53 of 54 of the remanufactured HP-compatible toner cartridges we sell passed. That result covers HP-compatible toner only, not ink. It's the only independent test claim we make, and we'd rather say that plainly than pad this page with numbers we can't back up.

Does it void your HP warranty?
No, not on its own. HP's own printer warranty says "the use of a non-HP toner cartridge or a refilled toner cartridge does not affect either the warranty to the customer or any HP support contract with the customer" (HP M552/M553 user guide). The same warranty adds that "if product failure or damage is attributable to the use of a non-HP toner cartridge or refilled toner cartridge, HP will charge its standard time and materials charges to service the product for the particular failure or damage."
When OEM makes sense
Choose North American Remanufactured for high-volume office, practice and lab printing where cost matters. Choose HP Original if a service contract or internal policy requires original cartridges, or if you print photos or color-critical work and want to talk it through with us first. Need OEM? What's the difference between remanufactured and compatible toner?
A compatible cartridge usually means a newly built third-party cartridge made to fit the printer. Remanufactured cartridges reuse a genuine OEM shell. Our North American Remanufactured line is remanufactured, not compatible clones.
Can remanufactured toner damage my printer?
It's possible with any cartridge, so we won't claim it never happens. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the FTC says "Companies can't void a consumer's warranty or deny warranty coverage solely because the consumer uses a part made by someone else," but "A company may, however, disclaim warranty coverage for defects or damage caused by the use of unauthorized parts or service" (FTC). Why might I get fewer pages than the rated yield?
Page yield is the manufacturer-rated page count. A cartridge printing dense forms or graphics will produce fewer pages than one printing mostly text.
Can I recycle my empty cartridges?
Yes, through Recycle Responsible. It's free with a prepaid label for boxes of 20+ cartridges or 20+ lbs. Boxes below that may carry a $12 fee, and cartridges they don't accept are $3 each.
